Your Skin Has an Appetite: What Are You Feeding It?

Ever heard the Ayurvedic wisdom that you shouldn't put on your skin what you wouldn't put in your mouth? Take a moment to let that sink in.

Now, picture your favorite moisturizer. Would you eat it? Probably not, right? 😅

This little nugget of ancient wisdom got me thinking hard about my own cosmetic drawer. I'll be honest, at first, I was terrified. I mean, weren't all these products the secret to my hopefully eternally youthful skin? The thought of giving them up made me imagine waking up looking like I'd aged a decade overnight! 😱

But after diving into an Ayurveda class, I decided to face my fears and take a good, long look at the products I slather on my skin daily. The result? A step-by-step mission to swap out my chemical-laden products for safer alternatives.

Here's the thing: our skin is like a sponge. It absorbs a good chunk of what we put on it. In Ayurveda, there's a saying that it's not just about what we eat, but what we can digest. And let me tell you, our bodies aren't equipped to 'digest' the chemical cocktail we're exposed to daily.

Now, I'm not saying we should all go live in a bubble. In today's world, being totally chemical-free is about as realistic as my plants learning to do the dishes. But we can certainly try our best to reduce our exposure.

One big reason to care? Endocrine disruptors. These sneaky chemicals can mess with our hormones, potentially impacting our fertility. They're found in everything from plastics to pesticides, and yes, even in some of our beloved beauty products.

For those of us on a fertility journey, this is especially important. Our hormones are already on a delicate dance – the last thing we need is a chemical mosh pit throwing off the rhythm.

So, what can we do? Start small. Read labels. Choose products with ingredients you can pronounce (bonus points if you'd be okay eating them). Look for natural alternatives. Your skin – and potentially your future baby – will thank you. 👶

And guess what? My fears about looking older? Totally unfounded. If anything, my skin looks better now that it's not constantly battling a barrage of chemicals. ✨ At least I hope so!🤞🏻

Remember, it's not about perfection. It's about progress. Every small swap is a step in the right direction.

And hey, if you're feeling overwhelmed, you're not alone. This journey towards a more natural lifestyle is just that – a journey. We're in this together, learning as we go. 🤗

So, next time you're about to slather on that lotion, ask yourself: would I eat this? Your skin is listening, and it's got quite the appetite. What are you feeding it today?

With love,

Giselle
