A Little Known Key to Health

Updated: May 20, 2022

Connect to your 5 Senses.

The classical texts of Ayurveda tell us that misuse of the senses is one of the three main causes of disease.

Our senses are our gateways to the World. How we use them has a huge impact on how we think and feel.

Sometimes we flood these openings with stimulation when we are feeling empty or craving distraction. Sometimes we close them off in fear. It all depends on what's happening in our internal world.

Developing your relationship with your senses is one of the most crucial things you can do for your health. Get to know them and how you use them. Appreciate them. Nourish them. You'll begin to tune into the richness of life and your sense of wellness will blossom.

3 ways we misuse the five senses:

and negatively impact our agni - our ability to digest food and life.

UNDERUSE: undereating, sleeping too much, numbing with medications or music.

OVERUSE: overeating, not sleeping enough, watching disturbing movies, excess sun exposure, listening to loud music, excessive use of electronics.

EMOTIONAL USE: gossiping, binging on drugs, alcohol or food.

Ayurveda never states that these things are good or bad, it simply states that they will disrupt our agni and wellbeing.

Sound therapy practice to try:

Give yourself some quiet time 3 x daily sit for 5 minutes without interruption and be with the silence around and inside of you.

Sight therapy Practice to try:

Pranic healing with your hands Rub your hands together and place them over your eyes for 3 relaxed breaths. Repeat 3 times. Hum with the hands over the eyes to enhance the healing for the eyes and strengthen the eyesight. Journal about your experience.

Always something there to remind you! The five senses therapies are very much about creating awareness around what you are already doing in life. Make sticky notes to place around the house to remind you to be aware of using your senses as you engage in different household activities.

Enjoy the place you are in right now. Great things are coming!
